Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-05-05
This Privacy Policy explains how SongMargin (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our iOS app and website (collectively, the “Services”).
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: if you create an account, we may collect identifiers such as username and authentication data. If you use Sign in with Apple in the future, Apple may provide us with an identifier and (if you choose) your name and email.
- Content you provide: notes, titles, text, comments, and any other content you submit to the Services.
- Music metadata: when your notes include Apple Music links, we may process song identifiers and related metadata (such as title/artist/artwork URLs) to render music cards and build a “note playlist” for that note.
- Public interactions: likes, favorites, comments, and view counts related to public notes.
- Usage and device data: basic log data such as IP address, timestamps, user agent, and diagnostic information for security and reliability.
- Website storage: the website may use local storage (e.g.,
localStorage) to cache the public feed for a better offline experience.
2. Private Notes and iCloud (CloudKit)
If you enable iCloud sync, private notes may be stored in Apple CloudKit under your Apple ID and synced by Apple. We do not control Apple’s processing of iCloud data. Private notes are not intended to be publicly accessible. If you choose to publish a note, the published version becomes public and is stored on our servers.
3. How We Use Information
- Provide and operate the Services (including syncing public notes, rendering shared pages, and enabling likes/favorites/comments).
- Improve features, performance, and reliability (including debugging and abuse prevention).
- Personalize your experience (for example, recommendations based on your interactions) if/when such features are enabled.
- Communicate with you about support requests and important updates.
4. AI Features
If you use AI-related features, we may send relevant input (such as prompts and selected note content) to third-party AI service providers to generate a response. Please avoid submitting sensitive personal information in prompts. AI outputs may be inaccurate and are provided “as is”.
5. How We Share Information
- With service providers: hosting, databases, analytics/monitoring, and AI providers, solely to operate the Services.
- With Apple: for Apple Music link handling and iCloud (CloudKit) syncing, as applicable.
- Public sharing: content you mark as public (published notes) is visible to anyone with the link and may be listed in the public feed.
- Legal: if required to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect safety and integrity.
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Services and for legitimate business purposes (such as security and dispute resolution). Public content may remain available until you delete it or request removal.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Your Choices and Requests
- You can control what you publish. Published notes are public.
- You can delete your account from the Settings page within the app. When you delete your account, we also delete associated server-stored data linked to that account.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your server-stored data by contacting us.
- For private notes stored through iCloud / CloudKit, you can manage them through the app and your iCloud settings.
10. Data Access Requests
You may request access to information associated with your server-stored account by contacting us. We currently handle these requests manually.
- Email: laiwei9798@yahoo.com
- Subject:
SongMargin Data Request
- Please include: your request type (for example,
Access, Correction, or Deletion) and enough detail for us to understand the scope of your request.
- Verification: for security, we may require you to verify account ownership through the signed-in app or by re-authenticating with Sign in with Apple before we process certain requests. We may not be able to verify account ownership based on email alone.
- Data export: we do not currently provide a self-service data export tool. If you contact us with a request regarding your server-stored data, we will review it and respond in accordance with applicable law and our ability to verify the request securely.
- Response time: we will respond within a reasonable period.
11. International Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own depending on where our service providers operate.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new effective date.
